J'lem light rail train to begin service Friday

Citypass announced on Tuesday that despite rumors in the Knesset of another month-long delay, the light rail in Jerusalem will begin operation on Friday.
For the first few months, passengers will be able to ride the light rail for free.
CityPass CEO Yehuda Shoshani said that the decision to offer free rides for the first few months was made in conjunction with the state in order to ease into the "acclimatization period." Additionally, it will be a number of months before CityPass finishes updating all of the traffic lights to give preference to the trains, which means the trains will be held up in the same traffic that plagues cars during rush hour.
The planned switch of more than 50 bus lines in the capital will be delayed until the traffic light updating is completed.
