Juppe: PA statehood bid creating strain on EU unity

The Palestinian statehood bid is taxing the European Union's desire to present a unified front on foreign policy issues, DPA quoted French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe as saying on Monday.

Juppe, speaking after an EU meeting in Luxembourg said that "a lot of energy" would be needed to maintain unity on the matter between the EU's 27 member states.

The French foreign minister added that the EU had instructed its foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, to continue in her efforts to renew Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
