Justice Ministry: Ukraine plagued by high-level corruption

Ukraine is plagued by high-level corruption involving lawmakers, prosecutors and judges, according to a Justice Ministry document compiled for Wednesday’s ministerial committee debate on canceling visa requirements for visitors from the country.

In addition, the document, obtained by Army Radio, said that the country was a source of human trafficking, prostitution, criminal forgery scams and money laundering. It asserted that the economic situation there was unstable and created a climate comfortable for human traffickers.

The document was compiled by Rachel Gershoni, who coordinates the government's efforts in the battle against human trafficking, and Hila Teva-Gilad of the Justice Ministry's department on international accords.

Tourism Minister Stas Meseznikov dismissed the claims as scandalous.
