Kadima MK Bar-On approved as Knesset FADC chairman

MK Ronnie Bar-On (Kadima) officially became the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman on Wednesday, replacing former chairman and new Vice Premier Shaul Mofaz.
The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee unanimously voted in Bar-On’s favor, one day after the Knesset House Committee did the same.
“I feel that a great responsibility has been given to me, and I hope I will prove to be worthy,” Bar-On told Mofaz at a celebratory committee meeting.
Mofaz pointed out that the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee is one of the most important in the Knesset, as it deals with very sensitive security and diplomatic issues.
House Committee chairman Yariv Levin (Likud) said “Israel can feel sure that someone is supervising and analyzing central and influential decisions being made,” adding that Bar-On’s civilian experience balances out Mofaz’s military experience.
MK Einat Wilf (Independence) asked Bar-On to deal with foreign affairs issues along with those of defense, which were the committee’s main focus in recent years.
