Kim Jong Il makes son 4-star general before party meeting

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il appointed his youngest son as a four-star general, official state media reported on Monday.
The appointment of Kim Jong Un came the day before a large-scale meeting of the ruling Worker's Party, understood to be the event where Kim Jong-il will announce his successor.
Kim Jong Il took control of North Korea when his father, the North's founder Kim Il Sung, died of heart failure in 1994. He has reportedly groomed his third son Kim Jong Un as his heir to power.
