Knesset passes law for harsher hit-and-run sentences

The Knesset on Monday passed into law a bill calling for more severe punishments for those convicted of hit-and-run accidents.
The legislation, introduced by Kadima MK Ze'ev Bielski and Israel Beiteinu MK Moshe Matalon, will increase the maximum punishment for a hit-and-run offense from seven to 14 years in prison.
As part of the new law, a passenger in a car involved in a hit-and-run incident that does not report the crime will receive half of the sentence received by the offending driver.
