Knesset vote on state comptroller goes to second round

No candidate for the next state comptroller passed the required 61 votes in the Knesset Monday afternoon, forcing a second round of voting. In the first round, Jerusalem District Court Judge Joseph Shapira received 58 votes, Deputy Supreme Court President Eliezer Rivlin received 44 votes and president of the Organization of Internal Auditors Shlomo Kalderon received 10 votes.

Current State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss’s term officially ends on July 3, and Shapira has been touted as the leading candidate to replace him. There were two other people vying for the position - Deputy Supreme Court President Eliezer Rivlin and president of the Organization of Internal Auditors Shlomo Kalderon.
