Labor Ministry launches workplace safety program

The Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry announced Tuesday that it is launching a concerted workplace safety enforcement campaign that it hopes will reduce both the incidence and severity of casualties at construction and engineering sites.
According to ministry figures, 65 percent of fatal workplace accidents in Israel occur at construction sites. As part of its campaign, ministry-appointed supervisors will visit hundreds of construction sites around the country to check that they are meeting safety standards.
Yoram Eliezer, chief workplace supervisor for the ministry, said: “In places at which safety deficiencies are found, supervisors will enforce immediate sanctions that include demanding the immediate cessation of work, and opening administrative and criminal proceedings against site managers and those found responsible for violating the law.”
