Law passed giving victims more rights in hit-and-run cases

The Knesset on Tuesday passed into law a bill which will allow hit-and-run victims and their families to be involved in every step of legal proceedings against  perpetrators of such crimes.
As part of the law, victims and their families will have the right to offer their personal opinions during the judicial process, including in instances of plea bargains and pardon requests.
MK Ze'ev Bielski, who proposed the legislation, said Tuesday that "today we have achieved justice for hit-and-run victims. Unfortunately, in many cases, the authorities chose to ignore the victims and closed plea bargains without them knowing...through this law we will prevent this injustice from being carried out against additional families in the future."
