Liberman says he did nothing criminally wrong

Former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman on Thursday issued a statement responding to his indictment by again denying any criminal wrongdoing. He said nothing has changed in light of the new investigation and allegations that he asked deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon to appoint Ze'ev Ben-Aryeh as ambassador to Latvia.

Liberman said he wants the issue to be clarified in court, and to that end has already informed the Knesset that he was lifting his parliamentary immunity – in addition to having quit his post as foreign minister – so that the matter can be determined quickly in the courts.

"All rumors about a plea bargain, as well as other rumors, are without foundation, and the truth will emerge in the court," he said.

Earlier this month Liberman left Ayalon off his party's Knesset list. Ayalon will now be added to the list of witnesses for the prosecution.
