Life sentence for man convicted of murdering girlfriend

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced a 39-year-old man to life in prison on Monday, after finding him guilty of murdering his girlfriend.

According to the indictment, former police agent Yitzhak Edri strangled his partner, Sarit Zikri in her apartment in Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood last January, after a violent confrontation in which he kicked Zikri in the face.

After murdering Zikri, Edri dragged her body onto a balcony and covered it with a carpet before cleaning bloodstains off the bedroom floor. A day later, Edri sent a text message to Zikri's daughter, from Zikri's cellphone.

Under the Penal Code, life in prison is the mandatory sentence for murder.
