Livnat defends criticism of Sderot festival opening film

Sports and Culture Minister Limor Livnat on Sunday defended her comments criticizing the opening film of the Cinema South Festival in Sderot which kicked off Sunday.
Livnat told Army Radio that she respects artists and those who create culture, but said "sometimes it is permissible to criticize them."
The culture minister was referring to her words against the festival's opening film, "Edut" (Testimony) which features reenacted monologues about Palestinian experiences under "occupation."
"We are talking about a movie filled with one-sided testimonies from B'Tselem," Livnat said, adding that she does not support a movie that "our enemies" could use to show IDF soldiers in a negative light.
She told Israel Radio that when she came to the film's opening Sunday, "they tried to silence me" when she criticized the film, saying "People could not handle the criticism, in Sderot of all cities, a place that was plagued by terrorism."
