Livni: Delegitimize Ahmadinejad, impose political sanctions

UNITED NATIONS — Kadima and opposition leader Tzipi Livni called Tuesday for the international community to deny Iran's leader any stage to call for the destruction of Israel.
She told UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that the world needs to quickly "delegitimize" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by imposing political sanctions, in addition to UN sanctions preventing him from speaking in international forums "to propagate his dangerous agenda," her spokesman said in a statement in Hebrew.
Livni said such "political sanctions" would hurt Iran's leaders and not its people, according to Mirit Cohen, spokeswoman for Israel's UN Mission who released the statement in English.
A brief statement from the secretary-general's office said the two discussed Ban's recent visit to the Mideast and prospects for reviving the peace process.
