Livni on strike: This is an opportunity to implement reform

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni spoke of the opportunity to reform the public service in light of the general strike held Monday morning in an effort to end the practice of employing contract workers in government offices.
"The situation in Israel today, in which there are two levels of workers and one has fewer rights than the other is clearly unsound, unfair, unjust and is in need of change," Livni said in a statement.
"There is an real opportunity for [Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu] and [Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini] to speak honestly and directly and to begin real reforms in the entire public service that eradicate the two standings that create distortions and injustice," she added.
Such reforms, she continued, "will finally allow for the administrative flexibility required for efficient public service in the public sector." Livni called on Netanyahu and Eini "not to waste this opportunity to implement the needed reforms in the public service."
