Livni on tour: Zaka organization improves haredi image

Opposition leader and Kadima MK Tzipi Livni praised the ZAKA volunteer rescue and recovery organization for "changing the public perception of the haredi community." She made the statement on a Tuesady visit of ZAKA headquarters in Jerusalem’s Jaffa Road and received a warm welcome from ZAKA chairman Yehuda Meshi-Zahav and CEO Arale Tzur.
They gave her an overview on the organization’s lifesaving, search, rescue and recovery activities in Israel and abroad, its sources of funding and other resources. Livni, who has made efforts to improve her and her party’s ties to the haredi community, said: "You underestimate the amount of honor and respect that the people in Israel have for you. I very much appreciate the work that you do, day or night – saving lives and honoring the dead. My friends and I are your partners and we will help in any manner that we can."
ZAKA leaders Livni a tour of ZAKA headquarters and the 24-hour hot-line emergency telephone center, as well as a new ZAKA firefighting all-terrain vehicle, which provides easy access and mobility on hilly terrain and carries firefighting and emergency medical equipment.The ATV unit was recently established based on lessons learned from the fatal Carmel Forest Fire in January.
At the end of the visit, Zahav gave MK Livni a copy of “A Prayer for the State of Israel,” adding that, “At times, only a prayer can help,"
