Livni: What Abbas said in TV interview was very important

Former foreign minister Tzipi Livni called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas following an interview he gave to Israeli television in which he discussed relinquishing claims to a right of return for Palestinian refugees, she said in an interview with Army Radio Sunday.
"I called him and told him it was very important that he said what he did," Livni recalled, saying she was happy to hear him say the same things in public that he once said in closed negotiations she was a part of.
The belief in Israel that there is no partner on the Palestinian side and that the Palestinian leadership refused to sign generous offers from Israel is not based on the accounts of those who sat in negotiations that took place, she said.
"The negotiations ended before we reached a point that something could be signed," Livni continued. Some members of the current government, she added, don't want to listen to the Palestinians because it would undermine their stance that there is no Palestinian partner for peace.
