Local authorities protest contract worker deal

Hours ahead of a deal agreed upon by the Histadrut Labor Federation and the Finance Ministry being finalized and signed, the Union of Local Authorities said Thursday that it will not be able to implement it.
Local Authorities Charmian Shlomo Bohbot asked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini not to accept portions of the agreement affecting local authorities, and protested the exclusion of the local authorities in the negotiations.
The Histadrut and Finance Ministry held marathon talks overnight to find a solution over government contract workers and end a general strike in its second day. The sides reached a general agreement, the legal details of which were still being sorted out into Thursday afternoon.
According to Bohbot, the current deal would cost local authorities upwards of a billion NIS.
