Man injured in Bat Yam shooting near school

A 23-year-old man was shot and wounded by an unknown gunman on Tuesday in Bat Yam in an apparent criminal assassination attempt near a school.

Police say a black vehicle containing two suspects pulled up near a parking lot, from which a gunman emerged and walked towards a parked vehicle containing the "target" and a friend.

The gunman fired several shots at the man, before getting back into his vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The injured man was rushed in moderate to serious condition to the Woflson Medical Center in Holon by Magen David Adom paramedics. The shooting occurred near a religious girl's school; neighbors described moments of terror upon hearing the shots fired in the street.

Police forensics officers studied the crime scene and cordoned off a blood-stained section of the sidewalk.
