Man suspected of shaking baby niece freed to house arrest

The Kiryat Gat Magistrate's Court ruled on Sunday to release a man suspected of shaking his baby niece to house arrest until next Friday.
The court allowed the 24-year-old Ashkelon man to be released from custody on condition that he remain under house arrest outside Ashkelon. The suspect is also forbidden from contacting anyone else connected with the matter for 15 days.
The arrangement was made following an agreement between police and the suspect's lawyer, attorney Sharon Miller.
The court ordered the suspect to pay a NIS 10,000 bail bond and ordered his guarantor to pay a further bail bond of NIS 7,000.
In a previous hearing the court emphasized the possibility that the suspect's conduct towards the baby was negligent rather than deliberate violence.
The suspect was arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of shaking his five month old niece. The baby was hospitalized in a serious condition at the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
