Mazda recall over 500,000 07-09 vehicles in Europe, Asia

WASHINGTON – Mazda Motor Corp. said Thursday its recall of certain Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles to fix problems with the power-steering system will include those sold in Europe and parts of Asia.
The Japanese automaker said the recall will cover more than 500,000 vehicles globally. The automaker had said previously the recall would include more than 300,000 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles in North America from the 2007-2009 model years.
Mazda said the vehicles could lose power-steering assist, making it difficult for the driver to steer the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
Mazda spokesman Jeremy Barnes says the recall includes 2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles sold in Europe and parts of Asia, including China and Taiwan.
