Medvedev to meet Assad Monday, Erdogan Tuesday

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is set to arrive in Syria Monday for a two-day state visit, centered around meeting Syrian President Bashar Assad. Medvedev said he intended to tighten ties with a veteran ally. He will be accompanied by a large business delegation, and the Russians hope to oversee the signing of an economic agreement, AFP reported.
It is set to be the first visit to Syria by a Russian president since the fall of the USSR.
Medvedev will follow the Syria visit with a stopover in Turkey for talks with the Turkish President Abdullah Gul, as well as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Assad is set to visit Turkey and meet with Erdogan over the weekend.
