Ministers appeal bill to shield PM from investigations

Likud Ministers Benny Begin, Michael Eitan and Dan Meridor, appealed on Tuesday a decision made Sunday by the Ministerial Legislative Committee to promote a bill that would prevent the police from investigating a serving prime minister for deeds committed before entering office.
The appeal means that the bill will not go to first reading on Wednesday as previously reported, but instead come before the entire cabinet in a future meeting. The ministers said they appealed the proposed law because it violated the principle of equality before the law.
