MK Gal-On calls for case against Uri Blau to be dropped

MK Zehava Gal-On (Meretz) called for the criminal case against Haaretz journalist Uri Blau to be closed, following the Sunday sentencing of his source in the case, Anat Kamm. Kamm was convicted of passing classified IDF documents to Blau while she was serving in the IDF. Blau is being investigated for the unauthorized possession of classified documents.
Gal-On said that "the criminal case against journalist Uri Blau should be closed." She added, "After the court established that Anat Kamm did not have the intention to harm state security, and that the publication did not harm the state's security, there is no room for legal steps in the case of Uri Blau, who fulfilled his ethical obligations when he published a document of public interest and after receiving approval by the [military] censor."
Following Kamm's initial arrest, Blau remained in London for nearly one year before returning under an agreement with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), in which he would return all classified documents in his possession. Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein held a hearing for Blau earlier this year before making a decision whether to charge the Haaretz journalist.
