Monument planned for Israelis killed in Christchurch quake

Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin said from Chirstchurch, New Zealand that the city's mayor has agreed to allow the construction of a monument in memory of the three Israelis who perished in the powerful earthquake that struck the city in February 2011, Army Radio reported Monday. Over 170 people were killed as a result of the earthquake.
The Knesset speaker told the mayor that there are deep ties between Israel and New Zealand, and that many in Israel felt great pain in seeing the images of the disaster scenes.
