Murderer of police officer indicted

The Central District Attorney's office filed an indictment for murder on Thursday against Rateb Abu Atza, almost five years after he stabbed police officer Shlomi Assouline.
Abu Atza attacked Assouline in 2007 after the police officer discovered him and an accomplice with a stolen car. Assouline entered into a coma as a result of injuries he sustained in the attack and died in Tel Aviv's Sheba Hospital four and a half years later. He was 31 years old.
In 2008, Abu Atza was sentenced to 20 years in prison for several offenses, including grievous bodily harm, obstructing a police officer and driving without a license. He is currently appealing to the Supreme Court against his conviction.
