Netanyahu says he'll run for Likud Convention chairman

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told a Likud faction meeting Monday that he will run for the chairmanship of the Likud Convention, which is the Likud Central Committee in its temporary format since a new commitee was elected. He will run against Minister without portfolio Michael Eitan and MK Danny Danon.
Netanyahu said he would oppose efforts to restore the Central Committee's right to vote for the list of Likud MKs. They had that right until ahead of the 2006 election when Netanyahu got the Central Committee to change it and gave the right to select MKs to all party members instead.
"We will not let the Likud go in the wrong direction," Netanyahu said, adding that "the Likud is on the right path and the public knows it."
