Newt Gingrich: Leaning toward freeing Pollard

Leading Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich became the first candidate in the race to say he would free Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard, telling CNN in an interview: "I am prepared to say my bias is towards clemency, and I would like to review it. He's been in a very long time. But we are pretty tough about people spying on the United States."
Gingrich's point of view on Pollard has apparently changed since 1998 when the then-House speaker was quoted as saying that the US should not put "traitors on the negotiating table as a pawn" and demanded that then-president Bill Clinton forget about releasing Pollard.
