Nobel laureate to be Cancer Association’s honorary president

Prof. Aharon Ciechanover, who shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2004, has agreed to serve as honorary president of the Israel Cancer Association, replacing the late businessman Benny Gaon, it was announced on Thursday.
Ciechanover said at an event thanking volunteers for the ICA’s annual Knock on the Door campaign that he would do all he could to promote the association’s work, including research, helping patients and their families and increasing awareness, prevention and early detection of cancer.
He also praised the contribution of Gaon, who died two years ago.
