Obama: The Egyptian people have inspired us

US President Barack Obama on Friday said that the United States will continue to be a friend and a partner to the people of Egypt, who he said had "inspired us" with their protest against an autocratic regime.

He praised the Egyptian people for their protest, saying they had "bent the arc of history" through non-violent protest, not through "terrorism and mindless killing."

Obama said that we had witnessed history in Egypt over the past 18 days and that by stepping down, Hosni Mubarak responded to the Egyptian people's hunger for change.
