Ottoman-era archaelogical dig in Jaffa vandalized

Vandals ransacked an archaeological excavation of buildings from the late-Ottoman period in Jaffa on Sunday night, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) said in a statement released Monday.
"The damage done to these impressive buildings from the late Ottoman era is irreversible," said Dr. Yoav Arbel, director of the excavation.
While no suspects have been arrested, since the controversial excavation of the ancient graves on the grounds of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon began a wave of  vandalism against IAA archaeological digs swept the country.
Previous attacks on IAA dig sites in Jaffa and elsewhere were found to be the work of haredim.
