PA confirms Abbas, Mashaal to meet this month

The Palestinian Authority confirmed on Friday that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal will meet later this month in Cairo, the official PA news agency reported.

The two were expected to discuss holding general elections.

Abbas and Mashaal will meet for the first time since a reconciliation agreement was signed in Cairo last May.

A PA official said on Sunday that in addition to the issue of the elections Abbas and Mashaal will discuss ways of ending the Hamas-Fatah dispute and reuniting the Palestinians.
