PA to lower VAT, spending to ease economic costs

The Palestinian Authority will, among other steps, lower it's Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel to 15% to help alleviate the high costs of living, PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad announced Tuesday.
According to Ma'an News Agency, the PA will also cut funds from ministries, excepting health, education and social affairs.
The moves, which come in response to violent economic protests throughout the West Bank, means that the PA will pay civil servants only half of their August salaries (or a minimum of 2000 NIS) on Wednesday, and the remainder later in the week, Ma'an reported.
