PARIS - France is pushing for the rapid adoption of a UN Security Council resolution condemning Syria over a crackdown on protesters that has killed scores of civilians, officials and diplomats said on Tuesday.
The French foreign ministry condemned reports of further violence in Syria and said France and its UN partners had prepared a draft resolution on the country.
A French diplomatic source said Paris hoped that a UN move could materialize "in the next few days".
"Nobody would understand if the UN Security Council stayed silent on the matter," ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said in a written statement. "The use of violence cannot continue."
