Peres: Abbas is a leader Israel can negotiate with

President Shimon Peres on Sunday reiterated his belief in the two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and his faith in Mahmoud Abbas as a leader with whom Israel can negotiate.
Peres also said that diplomacy is an art, and advised the diplomats that it was better to be a lion in sheeps cloting than to be a sheep that rules like a lion.
Meanwhile, Michael Oren, Israel's ambassador to the US, on Sunday denied media reports to the effect that he has been asked to be relieved of duty. Oren, who was on extension of his second term told reporters in Jerusalem that there was no truth in the story, adding that it was not the first time that such rumours had surfaced.
He was interviewed at the opening of the fourth annual conference of Israeli diplomatic missions abroad, which took place at  the official residence of President Shimon Peres.
Photographers and TV camera crews focused primarily on Israel's Ambassador to France, Yossi Gal, who sat on the ministerial appointment committee which was allegedly unduly influenced by then-foreign minister Avigdor Liberman. He said you can either collaborate or deny statements made by Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon with regards to what Liberman did or did not do.
