"You are the backbone of Israel's democracy and rule of law" President Shimon Peres told outstanding policemen and women and Border Police at a Hanukka candle lighting ceremony at Beit Hanassi on Sunday. The president credited law enforcers with responsibility to carry out their duties with determination and wisdom for the betterment of society, the quality of life and the security of Israel's citizens. Peres also spoke of the heroism demonstrated in the face of day-to-day challenges, such as the war against terrorism and the inner safety of the country that confront the police, and stated that the public should be made aware of the deeds of the outstanding officers who in the presence of their families were participating in the Hanukka ceremony.
