Peres, Netanyahu congratulate Spain on World Cup win

President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called their Spanish counterparts on Monday to congratulate them on Spain's soccer team winning the World Cup on Sunday over Holland.
Netanyahu told the Likud faction that when he called Spanish prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, his Spanish counterpart said he was glad that the peace process was advancing and that if Netanyahu succeeded in reaching an agreement with the Palestinian Autority, he would send the Spanish soccer team to Israel.
"It would be easier for Israel to make peace with the Palestinians than to beat the Spanish soccer team," Netanyahu said he told Zapatero.
Earlier, in a meeting of the Knesset's State Control Committee, Netanyahu praised the spirit of Holland's team.
Peres told Spanish King Juan Carlos that "you conquered the world in one goal."
Peres said to Juan Carlos that Spain "took first place in the world's most popular sport," and called Spain the "big winner in the world."
The President went on to say that "for a long time I haven't seen the world united as it was over the past month."
