The state visit by President Shimon Peres to Vietnam has been deferred at the request of the Vietnamese government.
The historic visit, the first by a President of Israel, was at the invitation of the Vietnamese Government. In response to the Israeli naval commando raid on the Turkish so-called peace ship Marmara, the Vietnamese government contacted Beit Hanassi and asked for the visit to be postponed.
