Peres to Ethiopians: We should thank you

President Shimon Peres decried racism against the Ethiopian community Thursday, following protests earlier in the week over alleged discriminatory real estate practices in Kiryat Malachi.

Activists from the Ethiopian immigrant community and others reacted with fury Wednesday over comments by Immigrant Absorption Minister Sofa Landver that these olim should be “thankful” for what they have received from the State of Israel.

Speaking at a school on Thursday, Peres said that Ethiopians should not have to thank the state, but that the state should thank the Ethiopians.
