The High Court of Peru has reversed its decision from a month ago to extradite former District Court Judge Dan Cohen to Israel and sentenced him to house arrest. Cohen is wanted in Israel for charges of accepting bribes, fraud and breach of trust, for allegedly tilting bids in exchange for payment, when he was on the board of directors of the Israel Electric Corporation. Cohen is currently being tried for his alleged crimes in absentia in Israel and at the same time is facing money-laundering charges in Peru. A spokesman on behalf of the international department of the Justice Ministry said that the extradition proceedings against Cohen are in an advanced stage, and all of the necessary documents have been submitted to the Peruvian authorities. The two countries do not have a bilateral extradition agreement.
