The Noar Kahalacha NGO filed a petition Thursday to the High Court of Justice against the Ministry of Education to end 'discrimination' against Sephardi girls in haredi
The petition demands that the respondents explain “why they have not fulfilled their legal obligation to use all means available to them to eliminate discriminatory practices against Sephardi girls wishing to enroll in haredi schools.”Laloum set up Noar Kehalacha in 2002 to fight against the perceived discrimination against Sephardi girls in state-funded ultra-Orthodox schools.
Speaking at the Supreme Court in Jerusalem, Laloum denounced the school administrators as “thieves and criminals” who are allowed to do whatever they want.
“We demand in this petition there should be a transparent registration process, and a system which adheres to the principles of the Jewish religion, of Halacha
and of the Torah.”
Laloum called on the head of the Shas party MK Eli Yishai, Ariel Atias and the Shas movement as a whole to join him and help their community with this issue.
