Planned holiday resort at Palmahim Beach is canceled

A regional planning committee canceled plans for the establishment of a holiday resort at Palmahim Beach, near Rishon Lezion on Monday.
The decision came after the government had asked the committee to reconsider the plan, and amid public pressure to preserve the beach.
The Israeli Nature and Parks Authority had already presented plans to designate the beach as a national park, open to the public.
Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan said of the decision, "This is a a great victory for nature and for the quality of life for [Israeli] citizens."
