PM: If UN recognizes Palestinian state, US must oppose it

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told a group of visiting US senators that he is concerned by a recent poll that showed the Egyptian public opposes peace with Israel, Army Radio reported on Wednesday.
Netanyahu went on to call for the US government to clarify to the new government in Egypt that it must respect existing peace treaties, according to the report.
The prime minister also addressed the Palestinian Authority's efforts to gain support for recognizing a Palestinian state. "Even if such a decision is reached," referring to the possibility that the United Nations might confer statehood on the PA in September, "we need to ensure that the United States does not support it," Army Radio reported.
