PMO chief Gabai tours Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon

In accordance with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's instructions toPrime Minister's Office Director-General Eyal Gabai to examine theconstruction of a bombproof emergency room at Barzilai Medical Centerin Ashkelon, the latter toured the site on Wednesday morning. It comes after Netanyahu ordered a reevaluation of a cabinet decision to approve a costly alternative to the originally-planned site due to bones discovered thereGabai was accompanied by Israel Antiquities Authority Director Shuka Dorfman, the site archaeologist, the emergency room architect and senior Health Ministry officials, including an adviser to Deputy Health Minister Yaacov Litzman. Tour participants were briefed by the IAA on the work that has been done at the site, including the graves that have been uncovered, and by the Health Ministry, on the construction plans for the various sites.Following the tour, Gabai said that he was working intensively in order to brief Netanyahu on the alternatives for building a bombproof emergency room in a way that will not endanger human life at the date determined by the cabinet decision and in coordination with all the relevant parties.
