Police, Arab leaders collaborate to fight violence

Police commanders from the Sharon subdistrict and the Central District have formed a collaborative outreach team with leaders of the Arab communities in their districts, as part of efforts to bridge differences and increase coopeartion between law enforcement and the aRab sector, the Sharon Distrcit police said on Tuesday.
Sharon Subdistrict police spokesman Eran Yehuda said Tuesday that the group has still not held its first meeting, but that those who have agreed to take part include cultural and political leaders in the arab communities of the Sharon and the central region and that they hope to “find ways to forge greater cooperation and understanding with one another and fight violence and improve the quality of life in the Arab sector.”
Yehuda said the group was put together following weeks of talks between police commanders and local community leaders and that at the end of the talks “they reached the decision to appoint a twenty member workshop group to be led by the commander of the Central District, Major General Benzi Sao.
The Sharon Subdistrict which is part of the Central District includes a very large number of Arab residents, and includes such Arab cities and towns as Kfar Qassem, Tire, Taibe and Jaljulyah.
