Police: Couple set up Filipino, drug addict marriages

A Tel Aviv resident was arrested together with his Filipino wife onTuesday on suspicion of arranging marriages between Israeli drugaddicts and Filipino women seeking Israeli resident visas.
Police suspect the couple made large profits by setting up themarriages, which allowed the foreign women to reside in Israel on along-term basis.
The Tel Aviv man, age 46, allegedly approached drug addicts at arehabilitation center and offered them hundreds of shekels if theyagreed to 'marry' the women, a police source familiar with theinvestigation said.
The couple also allegedly located women from the Phillipines seekingIsraeli residency, and charged them thousands of shekels for themarriages. The suspects were due to appear before a Rishon Lezion Magistrate's court for a remand hearing on Tuesday.
