A Tel Aviv resident was arrested together with his Filipino wife on
Tuesday on suspicion of arranging marriages between Israeli drug
addicts and Filipino women seeking Israeli resident visas.Police suspect the couple made large profits by setting up the
marriages, which allowed the foreign women to reside in Israel on a
long-term basis.The Tel Aviv man, age 46, allegedly approached drug addicts at a
rehabilitation center and offered them hundreds of shekels if they
agreed to 'marry' the women, a police source familiar with the
investigation said.The couple also allegedly located women from the Phillipines seeking
Israeli residency, and charged them thousands of shekels for the
marriages. The suspects were due to appear before a Rishon Lezion Magistrate's court for a remand hearing on Tuesday.
