Police investigating car bombing in Petah Tikva

Petah Tikva police have opened an investigation into a car bombing in the city on Wednesday night that caused serious damage to a vehicle but did not cause any injuries.

Police said the owner of the car is a local man with no criminal record who is not known to be involved in the local underworld. Unlike as is typically done in such cases, the investigation is being handled by the local police station and not by the YAMAR central investigative unit.

On Sunday night, a Petah Tikvah man was killed after a bomb attached to a motorcycle blew up next to him on Kehilat Chicago street in the city. In that case the man was known to local police, and YAMAR quickly took the reigns of the investigation.

Police said Thursday that they do not believe the two incidents are related.
