Police to appeal against Shapira's release in mosque arson

Judeaand Samaria Police will launch an appeal at Jerusalem District Court against a decisionby a magistrateto free Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, who was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion ofbeing linked to the December arson attack on a Palestinian mosque.

Neither police nor the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) are prepared

to disclose publicly the specific role they suspect Shapira of playing in theattack, but the Jerusalem magistrate who freed the rabbi read the classifiedcase material earlier on Tuesday.
"All we can say at this stage is that he is suspected in connection withthe arson incident," a police spokesman said.
