Police to probe suspected negligence in Ramle murder case

Police will investigate whether officers at the Ramle police station mishandled a complaint lodged by a 19-year-old woman in 2010 against a suspect who allegedly went on to murder her last Thursday.
The homicide victim, Alaa Vail Dahar, was studying dentistry in Moldova and had returned to Israel for a vacation last week. She was gunned down in a taxi in central Ramle.
Dahar lodged a complaint at a Haifa police station in 2010 in which she said that 24-year-old Hassan Abu-Ganam, of Ramle, who was arrested last week for the deadly shooting, had threatened to kill her if she travelled abroad.
Haifa police transferred the complaint to Ramle police, who reportedly did not act on the complaint.
"The head of the Investigations and Intelligence Branch [Cmdr. Yoav Seglovitch] has appointed an investigating officer... who will check the circumstances that led up to the murder and how they were handled," police announced on Wednesday.
The officer will file a report detailing his findings in ten days.
