A policewoman was lightly wounded Monday when a group of approximately one hundred Israeli Arabs, many of them masked, threw stones at security forces and burned tires in Taibe to protest a court-ordered demolition of a number of buildings which had been constructed without permits.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said around 40 protesters donned masked as they hurled stones. Police deployed additional officers into the town to back up officers on the ground in an effort to quell the riot, and closed off Route 444 near the town. Shortly after the first round of disturbances, a group gathered around the Taibe Municipality building and attempted to break in, police said.
Police continued to be deployed in Taibe in large numbers on Monday evening and Route 444 remained closed.
