Poll: Amr Moussa leads Egyptian presidential race

Former Arab League chief Amr Moussa is leading Egypt's presidential race at 30.7 percent, according to Egyptian daily Al Ahram released Monday.

A poll conducted by the Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies found that Moussa, who served as foreign minister to ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, led the current pack of candidates (excluding former intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, who entered the race after the poll was taken), but that 42% of respondents preferred an Islamist candidate.

Salafist candidate Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail came in second with 28.8%, despite the revelation that his mother held American citizenship, which disqualifies him from running under Egyptian election law.

In the meantime, Muslim Brotherhood candidate Khairat al-Shater only received 1.7% support in the poll.
